The sources of the purine base rings
- one aspartate will give nitrogen,
- two nitrogen comes from glutamine
- two carbon and one nitrogen is glycine,
- two carbons are C1, and one is bicarbonate.
Synthesis of the purine nucleotides
- First, 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate is synthesized from ribose-5-phosphate (Mg2+ is added, and ATP and ribose-5-phosphate are generated directly by
