Glutamate dehydrogenase has two isoforms GLUD1 and GLUD2. Both isoforms are in the mitochondria. There is another abbreviation for the enzyme which is GDH.

GLUD1

Glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GLUD1/GDH1) is expressed in the liver, brain, pancreas and kidney.

The primary role of the GLUD1 is transdeamination. Based on the enzyme name it is a dehydrogenase activity, which means the hydrogen is going to be taken, so it is an oxidative transdeamination (Figure 1).
