Adipose tissue is the place where the excess amount of energy in the form of TAG is stored. Adipose tissue can be classified into two types:
- White adipose tissue (WAT)
- Brown adipose tissue (BAT)
- Another, recently discovered subtype known as “beige“, serves as an intermediate between the two.
White adipose tissue (WAT)
The primary role of white adipose tissue is the production of ATP by the degradation of fatty acids and storing the excess amount of energy in the form of TAG.
