Transduction is a method of genetic exchange where the genetic material is transferred between bacteria by means of a bacteriophage.

Bacteriophages are viruses that can infect and replicate in bacteria cells.

Lytic vs Lysogenic Cycle

The bacteriophage can replicate inside the bacteria and be released in the lytic cycle or it can insert itself DNA into the bacteria and live in there for years while slowly replicating in the lysogenic cycle.
