Muscle tissue tumors are classified according to the type of muscle tissue.
Striated muscle
Most striated muscle tumors are of a malignant nature (rhabdomyosarcomas).
Rhabdomyosarcoma
- Malignant
- Aggressive
- Most common soft-tissue sarcoma in children and young adults
- Three subtypes exist (ordered by the degree of malignancy):
- Embryonal (most cases)
- Most commonly found in the head and neck regions of children (ages 3-12)
- Mostly in regions absent of skeletal
