  • Due to impaired excretion into the bile and failure to incorporate the copper into ceruloplasmin which is the main copper carrier protein
  • The liver will undergo steatosis, hepatitis, and cirrhosis with prominent Mallory-Denk bodies
  • Once unbound copper is released from damaged hepatocytes, it will lead to:
    • RBC lysis
    • Deposition
