Bacterial infection of the endocardium lining the valves (mostly) or chambers, leading to the formation of bacterial vegetations lined with thrombi and debris, causing the destruction of the tissue.

  • The aortic and mitral valves are most commonly affected
    • The tricuspid is frequent in IV drug abuse
