When diagnosing a soft tissue tumor, the same diagnostic methods apply as for other tumors.
Tissue pattern
Knowing the histological morphology, we can usually identify the tissue type of the tumor:
- Intensely eosinophilic fascicles (muscle tissue)
- Cartwheel (storiform) pattern
- Herringbone pattern (resemblance to the bones of a fish such as a herring)
- Palisaded pattern (nuclei seem piled upon each other)
- Biphasic pattern (two types of arrangements)
