When diagnosing a soft tissue tumor, the same diagnostic methods apply as for other tumors.

Tissue pattern

Knowing the histological morphology, we can usually identify the tissue type of the tumor:

  • Intensely eosinophilic fascicles (muscle tissue)
  • Cartwheel (storiformpattern
  • Herringbone pattern (resemblance to the bones of a fish such as a herring)
  • Palisaded pattern (nuclei seem piled upon each other)
  • Biphasic pattern (two types of arrangements)
