The prostate secretes prostatic fluid into the semen and helps forcefully press it into the urethra so it could be expelled during ejaculation.

The fluid contains:

  • Proteolytic enzymes
  • Prostatic acid-phosphatase
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA)

Location

The prostate is located just inferior to the bladder and anterior to the rectum, engulfing the prostatic urethra.
