The heart is supplied mainly by the coronary arteries.

  • The first branches of the aorta, supplyying the myocardium and epicardium
  • The coronary arteries arise at right above the semilunar valve (aortic valve)
  • There are two branches arising from the aorta; right and left coronary arteries
  • The flow in the coronary arteries is phasic (discontinuous — occurs only during the diastolic phase)
