The viscerocranium is the part of the skull that constitutes the bones of the face.

Description

The viscerocranium forms the anterior part of the skull known as the facial skeleton (compared with the neurocranium, which forms the posterior and superior parts of the skull covering the brain).

The bones that constitute the facial skeleton surround the orbits (orbital cavities), nose (nasal cavity), and mouth (upper and lower jaws), creating the characteristic shape of the face.
