The scalene muscles are three muscles found laterally to the cervical vertebral column.

The scalene muscles (anteriormiddle, and posterior) form a tent-like structure (scalenus tent — which covers the apex of the lung which protrudes about 1cm above the clavicle) at the anterolateral neck.
