The muscles of the larynx move the larynx as a whole (extrinsic muscles), and move and change the shape of laryngeal components (intrinsic muscles), aiding in vocal production.

Classification

The muscles of the larynx can be classified into two groups:

  • Extrinsic muscles, which originate from outside and attach to the hyoid bone.
