The hands are the terminal part of the upper limb.
Regions
The regions of the hand include the palm and the dorsum of the hand.
Bones
The bony hand consists of 27 bones that can be divided into three groups: carpal, metacarpal, and phalangeal bones.
Only the 8 carpal bones have a unique name, and they are further divided into a proximal and distal row, with 4 bones in each row:
- The proximal row consists of the scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum and pisiform bones (from lateral to medial).
- The distal row consists of the trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, and hamate bones.
