Muscle tissue types
- Skeletal muscle: Anchored to the bone and is used for skeletal movement such as locomotion and in maintaining posture (male: 42%; female: 36% of total body mass)
- Smooth muscle: Within the walls of organs and structures such as the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, bronchi, uterus, urethra, bladder, blood vessels, and the arrector pili in the skin
- Cardiac muscle: “Myocardium”, having a similar structure to skeletal muscle and found only in the heart
