- G-proteins can be found in the heterotrimeric form, consisting of three subunits (alpha, beta, gamma) but in rod and con cells of the retina it is called TRANSDUCIN
- With GDP bound to the alpha subunit, the G protein is inactive
- In order to become active, a ligand must activate the 7-TM
