Acquired thrombophilia includes conditions that lead to thrombophilia but are not congenital.

  • Hospital-acquired (HAT)
    • Thrombosis occurring within 90 days of hospitalization
    • Postoperative and in prolonged bed rest
    • Anesthesia
    • Thromboprophylaxis and risk assessment are used for prevention.
  • Malignancy
    • Trousseau's syndrome: increased cases of thrombosis in certain types of malignancies, such as pancreatic and lung cancer.
    • Tumors producing tissue factor and lyse endogenous heparan
