Background
Myeloproliferative diseases are neoplastic diseases of the myeloid hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow.
- One or more groups of cells proliferate uncontrollably, releasing mature but defective cells into the circulation; the erythropoiesis becomes ineffective, leading to extramedullary erythropoiesis; hepatosplenomegaly is common.
