This is known as a \u201csteady state\u201d, and allows them to perform their assigned function properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Physiologic stress <\/strong>is a type of change that occurs all the time; on a macro scale \u2013 the whole body is exposed to different events and environments, and so do our tissues and cells; this includes slight changes in what we\u2019ve mentioned before (pH, ions, water, etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This changes can come in the form of increased demand, for example \u2013 increased workload of the heart and the cardiovascular system during exersice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s think together what happens in this scenario, from the most simple towards the deepest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>CO increases as HR and SV are increased<\/li><li>This means cells are working more often and they require more ATP<\/li><li>More ATP production means more oxygen and other nutrient consumption<\/li><li>More ATP and oxygen means more waste products and ROS<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cells have ways for handling it, and this is called <strong>adaptation<\/strong>. Just like a car can handle different speeds on the road without breaking down, cells can handle a range of changes in what we\u2019ve discussed earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If this range is exceeded, the cells undergo a process known as <strong>cell injury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"the_titles\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Homeostasis: when a system is actively regulated to remain very nearly constant.
