<\/a>Description<\/h4>\n<\/span>\n\n\nThe frontal bone is an oval-shaped bone with two impressions that form the roof of the orbits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is divided into a large, squamous part<\/strong>, and a smaller, orbital part<\/strong> (some authors also mention a third part – the nasal part<\/strong> – see below<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n- It articulates inferiorly with the nasal, maxillary, lacrimal<\/strong>, zygomatic, <\/strong>and sphenoid bones<\/strong>, and posteriorly with the parietal bones<\/strong> (through the coronal sutures).<\/li>

- The orbital part participates in the conformation of the rim of the orbit (medial and lateral segments).<\/li>
- Some authors divide the middle lower portion of the squamous part (the portion which articulates with the nasal bones and maxilla) into a third part known as the nasal part<\/strong>.<\/li>
- The intersection of the nasal and frontal bones is named the nasion<\/strong> (bridge of the nose), a craniometric point <\/em>used radiographically to describe the topography of the cranium. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span>\n

- The glabella<\/strong>. A small depression found between the superciliary arches (“the area between the eyebrows”).<\/li>
- Superciliary arches.<\/strong> Also known as the supraorbital ridges, are bone elevations located superior to the rim of each orbit (overlayed by the eyebrows). They extend laterally on each side from the glabella, just above the supraorbital margin<\/li>
- Supraorbital notch\/foramen<\/strong>. For the passage of the supraorbital nerve and vessels, located at the medial part of the superior rim of the orbits, below the superciliary arches.<\/li>
- Coronal suture.<\/strong> A dense, fibrous connective tissue joint serving as the attachment of the posterior part of the frontal bone to the parietal bones.<\/li>
