{"id":619,"date":"2020-02-14T07:15:26","date_gmt":"2020-02-14T07:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meddists.com\/learn\/?page_id=619"},"modified":"2020-02-14T07:15:26","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T07:15:26","slug":"fibrous-tumors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meddists.com\/learn\/pre-clinical\/pathology\/soft-tissue-tumors\/fibrous-tumors\/","title":{"rendered":"Fibrous tumors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fibrous tumors are caused by fibroblastic and myofibroblastic proliferation.<\/p>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Benign tumors<\/h3>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Nodular fasciitis<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fast-growing<\/li><li>Self-limited<\/li><li>Appear as nodules deep to the skin (hence the name)<\/li><li>May mimic sarcoma:<ul><li>Hypercellular<\/li><li>Abundant mitoses<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>In many cases, grows following a traumatic injury to the region<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Fibromatoses<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Slow-growing<\/li><li>Locally invasive (&#8220;aggressive&#8221;)<\/li><li>Appear as large fibrous and cord-like sheets of CT underneath the skin<\/li><li>Often affects the structure and functionality<\/li><li>Gender predisposition: \u2642<\/li><li>Can be classified according to the location of the tumor:<ul><li>Superficial<ul><li><strong>Palmar fibromatosis<\/strong><ul><li>Also known as Dupuytren contracture<\/li><li>Affects the palmar surface of the hands, often limiting the ability to extend one&#8217;s fingers<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Plantar fibromatosis<\/strong><ul><li>Affects the plantar surface of the feet<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Penile fibromatosis<\/strong><ul><li>Also known as Peyronie disease<\/li><li>Usually affects the dorsal surface of the penile shaft<\/li><li>Can cause curving of the penis &#8212;&nbsp;strabismus<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Deep<ul><li><strong>Aggressive fibromatosis<\/strong><ul><li>Also known as Desmoid tumor<\/li><li>Highly infiltrative<\/li><li>Affects deep tissues<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_4\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Malignant tumors<\/h3>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_4\">\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_5\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Fibrosarcoma<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_5\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Arises from <strong>deep connective tissue<\/strong> (fascia, scar tissue, periosteum,\u00a0and tendons)<\/li><li>Usually, sharply demarcated<\/li><li>Tumor tissue frequently contains sites of hemorrhage and necrosis<\/li><li>Relatively infrequent (3% of adult sarcomas)<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/span><div id=\"the_titles\" style=\"display:none;\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benign tumors<\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nodular fasciitis<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fibromatoses<\/h4><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Malignant tumors<\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fibrosarcoma<\/h4><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fibrous tumors are caused by fibroblastic and myofibroblastic proliferation.
