genetic mutation in factor V causing it to become resistant to cleavage by protein C.<\/li><li>Probably to reduce bleeding during labor.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Antithrombin deficiency<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Heterozygous patients are expected to have an episode of DVT throughout their life.<\/li><li>Homozygous patients typically die in-utero.<\/li><li>Antithrombin inhibits thrombin and factors Xa, IXa, and XIa.<\/li><li>Leads to physiological heparin resistance.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_4\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Protein C deficiency<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_4\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Protein C inhibits degrades Va and VIIIa.<\/li><li>Heterozygous patients are expected to have an episode of DVT throughout their life.<\/li><li>Homozygous patients can experience neonatal purpura fulminans (severe DIC) on their first day of life. <\/li><li>It can be acquired due to liver disease, DIC, or warfarin therapy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_5\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Protein S deficiency<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_5\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Protein S binds and assists activated protein C.<\/li><li>Its deficiency has similar characteristics as protein C deficiency.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_6\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Prothrombin allele G20210A<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_6\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Factor II mutation.<\/li><li>Leads to increased plasma prothrombin levels.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_7\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Hyperhomocysteinaemia<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_7\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Can be hereditary or acquired<\/li><li>Elevated homocysteine levels increase the risk of thrombotic events.<\/li><li>Treatment: vitamin B6 administration.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/span><div id=\"the_titles\" style=\"display:none;\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Factor V Leiden<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Antithrombin deficiency<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protein C deficiency<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protein S deficiency<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prothrombin allele G20210A<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hyperhomocysteinaemia<\/h4><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A collection of congenital disorders in which components of the coagulation cascade are defective or absent, leading to an increased tendency to clot.
