It is the smallest of the three compartments and includes two evertors of the foot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fibularis longus<\/li><li>Fibularis brevis<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Fibularis longus<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fibularis longus (also known as the <strong>peroneus longus<\/strong>) muscle is the larger and more superficial of the two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It originates from the head and upper two-thirds of the lateral surface of fibula.<\/li><li>It forms a tendon as it descends towards the foot, passing posterior to the lateral malleolus to enter the lateral part of the foot. <strong>Its tendon is broader and posterior to the tendon of the fibularis brevis<\/strong> (opposite to the muscular bellies).<\/li><li>It inserts onto the cuneiform and first metatarsal.<\/li><li>Together with the fibularis brevis, the fibularis longus acts to evert the foot and provide weak plantarflexion of the ankle.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Fibularis brevis<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fibularis brevis (also known as the <strong>peroneous brevis<\/strong>) muscle is the shorter and smaller of the two. It is covered by the fibularis longus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It originates from the lower two-thirds of the lateral surface of the fibula.<\/li><li>Similar to the fibularis longus, its tendon passes posterior to the lateral malleolus to enter the lateral part of the foot. <strong>Its tendon is narrower and anterior to the tendon of the fibularis longus<\/strong>, and can be palpated.<ul><li>The tendon frequently merges with the tendon of the <strong>fibularis tertius muscle<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>It inserts onto the dorsal surface of the tuberosity of the 5th metatarsal bone.<\/li><li>Together with the fibularis longus, the fibularis brevis acts to evert the foot and provide weak plantarflexion of the ankle.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/span><div id=\"the_titles\" style=\"display:none;\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fibularis longus<\/h4><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fibularis brevis<\/h4><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fibularis longus The fibularis longus (also known as the peroneus longus) muscle is the larger and more superficial of the two.
