The buccal and infraorbital regions compose the mid-face and the cheek. They are often grouped together due to their proximity and the contents they share.<\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following structures can be found in the buccal and infraorbital region, from superficial to deep:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Regional muscles of facial expression<\/li>
  2. Facial artery and its branches (from the external carotid artery)<\/li>
  3. Facial and angular vein (venous drainage)<\/li>
  4. Branches of the facial nerve (CN VII)<\/li>
  5. Branches of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (CN V3)<\/li>
  6. Infraorbital artery (from the maxillary artery), including several other branches (buccal)<\/li>
  7. Infraorbital nerve (from the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve \u2014 CN V2)<\/li>
  8. Parotid duct (of the parotid gland, coming from the parotideomasseteric region)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The muscles of facial expression are located right beneath the skin \u2014 deep to them, we can find the facial artery, vein, and branches of the facial nerve. The branches of the divisions of the trigeminal nerve originate from fossae and notches in the viscerocranium, but their terminal sensory and motor fibers terminate on the skin and muscles, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span>\n

    The following muscles are located in the infraorbital and buccal regions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Levator labii superioris alaeque nasi<\/li>
    2. Levator labii superioris<\/li>
    3. Levator anguli oris<\/li>
    4. Depressor labii inferioris<\/li>
    5. Depressor anguli oris<\/li>
    6. Zygomaticus major<\/li>
    7. Zygomaticus minor<\/li>
    8. Risorius<\/li>
    9. Buccinator<\/li>
    10. Orbicularis oris<\/li>
    11. Mentalis<\/li>
    12. Upper fibers of platysma<\/li>
    13. Lower fibers of orbicularis oculi<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/span>
