Regions of the head<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Borders<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The frontal region extends between three margins:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Superior<\/strong>: Coronal suture<\/li><li><strong>Inferior<\/strong>: Supraorbital arch<\/li><li><strong>Lateral<\/strong>: Temporal line<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Structures<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following structures can be found in the frontal region:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis muscle<\/li><li>Corrugator supercilii muscle<\/li><li>Depressor supercilii muscle<\/li><li>Supra-orbital&nbsp;and supra-trochlear&nbsp;branches of the&nbsp;ophthalmic&nbsp;division&nbsp;of the&nbsp;trigeminal nerve&nbsp;(CN V1)<\/li><li>Supra-orbital&nbsp;and supra-trochlear&nbsp;arteries of the&nbsp;ophthalmic artery&nbsp;(from the&nbsp;internal carotid artery)<\/li><li>Branches of the&nbsp;facial nerve (CN VII)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three muscles are part of the&nbsp;muscles of facial expression. They receive motor innervation by the facial nerve.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Innervation<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The skin of this region is innervated by the <strong>supraorbital <\/strong>and <strong>supratrochlear branches <\/strong>of the <strong>frontal nerve<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves innervate the middle forehead and mid-lateral forehead, respectively.<\/li><li>The frontal nerve branches off the ophthalmic nerve after passing through the superior orbital fissure. <\/li><li>The supraorbital nerve will leave through the supraorbital foramen (or notch), while the supratrochlear nerve leaves directly through the roof of the orbit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_4\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Layers of the skin<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_4\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fast and easy way to memorize the layers of the forehead and scalp is using the following mnemonic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SCALP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>S<\/strong>kin<\/li><li><strong>C<\/strong>onnective tissue<\/li><li><strong>A<\/strong>reolar tissue<\/li><li><strong>L<\/strong>oose connective tissue<\/li><li><strong>P<\/strong>eriosteum<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_5\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"References_and_further_reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"References_and_further_reading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">References and further reading<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_5\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fiac, Moore Keith MSc PhD Hon.
