White adipose tissue<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">The primary role of white adipose tissue is the production of ATP by the degradation of fatty acids and storing the excess amount of energy in the form of TAG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#b6f9de\">A white adipocyte typically consists of a <strong>single lipid drople<\/strong>t, few <strong>mitochondria,<\/strong> and <strong>a cell nucleus (Figure 1). <\/strong>The white adipose tissue is <strong>found all over the body in different amounts<\/strong> and volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#deedf9\">In case of <strong>prolonged<\/strong> periods of <strong>excessive amounts of energy<\/strong>, both the volume and <strong>number of adipocytes will increase<\/strong>. Brown adipose tissue<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Brown adipose tissue (BAT)<\/h2>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In brown adipose tissue, there are<strong> far more mitochondria<\/strong>, and the lipid content is split into <strong>several small lipid droplets<\/strong>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d6f9eb\">A major role of BAT is the heat production by the UCP1 (uncoupling protein-1 <a href=\"https:\/\/meddists.com\/learn\/pre-clinical\/biochemistry\/biochemistry-of-the-metabolism\/medical-lipid\/ucp1-thermogenin\/\">UCP-1 \u2014 Thermogenin<\/a>), which uses a high amount of unsaturated\/saturated fatty acids for heat production&nbsp;<strong>(Figure 2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BAT is typically found <strong>in great amounts in newborns<\/strong> in the following locations: Thymus, Back, Kidneys. <strong>In adulthood<\/strong>, the number and <strong>volume of BAT cells decrease<\/strong>, while there are some remaining regions in the body where we do still have: deep neck regions, kidneys and thymus.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">References<\/h2>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S<span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">nider MDS.
