The basic law of synthesis is the <strong>+2C\/-2C<\/strong> <\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the fed state, excess amounts of dietary carbohydrates which are not used for energy\/glycogen synthesis will be converted to fatty acids in the liver from Acetyl-CoA. This process requires&nbsp;<strong>reducing equivalents<\/strong>&nbsp;(NADPH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#e2fbf1\">The synthesis of fatty acids occurs in the cytosol of hepatocytes, using Acetyl-CoA (2C) produced from glucose or other precursors (<strong>Figure 1<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The human body is designed to produce C<sub>16 <\/sub>palmitate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All other fatty acids are made by modification of this molecule.
