Lipids have a lot of crucial biological functions, which will be discussed in the upcoming lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Forms of lipids in the human body<\/h2>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can divide lipids based on their usage and function within our body:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#c6fde7\"><strong>Neutral lipids<\/strong> are hydrophobic molecules lacking charged groups. In several cells triacylglycerols (TAG) and steryl-esters give the major part of neutral lipids. These storage molecules accumulate when cells are provided with an excess of nutrients (mainly Acetyl-Coa &#8211; fatty acids).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fatty acids<\/strong> are made of Acetyl-Coa-s and represent the stored form of ATP. Types\/forms of lipids in the human body<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Phospholipids<\/strong> are lipids with hydrophilic &#8220;head&#8221; (phosphate group), and two hydrophobic &#8220;tails&#8221; (fatty acids), joined by glycerol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#c3f4e1\"><strong>Cholesterol <\/strong>is synthesized by all animal cells and is an essential structural component of membranes. It is a precursor of <strong>steroid hormones<\/strong>, <strong>cholic acid<\/strong> and <strong>vitamin D<sub>3<\/sub><\/strong>.
