Drainage of the Heart"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blood supplying the tissues of the heart is drained through two main sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Coronary sinus and the branches draining to it&nbsp;<\/li><li>Right atrium directly<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Coronary sinus<\/h3>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main, wide vein that runs from left to right in the posterior part of the coronary sulcus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are few veins which drain into the coronary sinus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Small cardiac veins at its right end<\/li><li>Middle cardiac vein<\/li><li>The left posterior ventricular vein and left marginal vein<\/li><li>Oblique vein (of Marshall)<\/li><li>Great cardiac vein at its left end<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Small cardiac veins<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The small cariac veins run along the right marginal branch of the RCA.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Middle cardiac vein<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;The middle cardiac vein runs&nbsp;<strong>parallel to the posterior interventricular branch<\/strong>&nbsp;(most of the time arise from the RCA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>!<\/strong>&nbsp;Both small and middle cardiac veins drain the regions of the heart which supplied by the RCA.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_4\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Great cardiac vein<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_4\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The first part of the great cardiac vein is the anterior interventricular vein<\/li><li>It begins at the apex of the heart, ascends along the anterior interventricular branch of the left coronary artery, continues along the circumflex artery and end up in the coronary sinus<\/li><li>The great cardiac vein drains the&nbsp;<strong>areas of the heart supplied by the LCA<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_5\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">The oblique vein (of Marshall)<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_5\">\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A small vessel which drains the left atrium<\/li><li>Descends over the posterior wall of the left atrium and merges with the&nbsp;<strong>great cardiac vein<\/strong>&nbsp;just before it forms the coronary sinus<\/li><li>It is an&nbsp;<strong>embryonic remnant of the left superior vena cava<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other veins that do not drain into the coronary sinus but rather into the right atrium directly:<br>1.<strong>&nbsp;Anterior cardiac veins<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;usually end directly in the right atrium<br>2.&nbsp;<strong>The smallest cardiac veins<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;begin in the capillary beds of the myocardium and
