Lynch, CC BY-SA 4.0)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Layers<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fascia is a sheet of connective tissue, containing mostly collagen and its function is to attach, stabilize, enclose, and separates muscles&nbsp;and other internal organs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deep to the skin, there are several layers of fascia and space we need to know about (from superficial to deep):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Superficial fascia<\/strong>. Consisting primarily of loose connective tissue, attaching the skin and overlying the breasts.<\/li><li><strong>Submammary <\/strong>(or <strong>retromammary<\/strong>)<strong> space<\/strong>. A space filled by&nbsp;loose areolar tissue, separating the breast&nbsp;from the pectoralis major&nbsp;muscle and&nbsp;<strong>pectoral fascia<\/strong>&nbsp;(see below).<\/li><li><strong>Pectoral fascia<\/strong>. Covering pectoralis major muscle.<\/li><li><strong>Clavipectoral fascia<\/strong>. Covering pectoralis minor muscle.<\/li><li><strong>Endothoracic fascia<\/strong>. Situated between the lungs and the thoracic wall,&nbsp;attaching it to the parietal pleura of the lung. <ul><li>The <strong>suprapleural membrane <\/strong>is the superior continuation of the endothoracic fascia as it becomes more fibrous over the apices of the lungs (cupula).<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Clinical information<\/h3>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_3\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title2\">Breast augmentation<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_3\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast implants can be inserted in different layers between the fasciae or muscles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are four surgical approaches&nbsp;to emplacing a breast implant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Subglandular<\/strong>. Within the retromammary space<\/li><li><strong>Subfascial<\/strong>. Within the pectoral fascia<\/li><li><strong>Subpectoral<\/strong>&nbsp;(dual plane). Underneath the pectoralis major muscle, while releasing the inferior attachment of the muscle<\/li><li><strong>Submuscular<\/strong>.
