{"id":1387,"date":"2020-08-06T23:03:10","date_gmt":"2020-08-06T23:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meddists.com\/learn\/pre-clinical\/medical-genetics\/epigenetics\/rna-based-mechanisms\/"},"modified":"2021-01-31T22:41:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-31T21:41:51","slug":"rna-based-mechanisms","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meddists.com\/learn\/pre-clinical\/medical-genetics\/epigenetics\/rna-based-mechanisms\/","title":{"rendered":"RNA-Based Mechanisms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><div class=\"intro\">There are two types of RNA: <strong>coding<\/strong> (only mRNA) and <strong>non-coding <\/strong>(all the others i.e tRNA, rRNA, miRNA, siRNA, snRNA, XIST RNA etc).<\/div><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The type of RNA that regulates gene expression is the non-coding one, most especially miRNA&#8217;s (micro RNA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The miRNA triggers the degradation of the mRNA or inhibition of the translation of the mRNA containing 3&#8217;UTR sequences that are complementary to the miRNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The degradation or inhibition of the mRNA will depend on the strength and complementarity of the bond between the miRNA and the mRNA.
