This fusion gene codes for a hybrid protein: a tyrosine kinase protein that is “always-on”, causing the cell to divide uncontrollably by interrupting the stability of the genome and impairing various signaling pathways governing the cell cycle. Each of these can form its own protein product. It is important because it helps the eukaryotic organism to produce much more proteins than the number of genes present

47,XX +18 or 47, XY +18. Low set ears, cleft lip/palate, growth deficiency

A promoter is a region of DNA that leads to the initiation of transcription of a particular gene. They are located near the transcription start sites of genes, upstream of the DNA, and can be about 100-1000 base pairs long. An enhancer is a short (50–1500 bp) region of DNA that can be bound by proteins known as activators, to increase the likelihood that transcription of a particular gene will occur. They are located up to 1,000,000 base pairs away from the gene and can be upstream or downstream from the start site. A silencer is a region of DNA that can be bound by proteins known as repressors, to decrease the likelihood that transcription of a particular gene will occur. They are located up to 1,000,000 base pairs away from the gene and can be upstream or downstream from the start site.

Folic acid is an important cofactor used in the synthesis of DNA. In embryonic development, it is necessary for the proper development of the neural tube. Deficiencies in folic acid in pregnancy can lead to neural tube defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly.

Questions

Answers

Questions Scroll down for answers!
