It contains important structures such as the subclavian artery and vein, and the carotid sheath.<\/div><\/p>\n\n\n<span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_1\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Description<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_1\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scalenotracheal fossa serves as a central hub through which important vessels and nerves pass between the head and neck, thorax, and axilla.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><span class=\"block-heading\" id=\"header_2\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"title_collection title1\">Borders<\/h4>\n<\/span><span class=\"block-content\" id=\"contents_2\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"pure-table\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Anterior<\/strong><\/td><td>Sternocleidomastoid muscle<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Lateral<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Anterior and middle scalene muscles<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Medial<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Trachea<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Floor<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Capula pleurae (The pleurae on top of the apex of the lung, just above the clavicle)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Table 1.
