Myocarditis is the inflammation of the myocardium.
- The inflammation can be diffuse or local; it may involve the pericardium, leading to myopericarditis.
- Cardiomyocyte necrosis is evident by elevated cardiac enzymes.
- It can be acute (days to weeks), subacute (weeks to months), or chronic (over a few months).
- Most commonly appears in young male patients.
