Hypertensive emergencies and urgencies are grouped as hypertensive crises:

• Hypertensive urgency is defined as severe hypertension (>180/120 BP)
• Hypertensive emergency is defined as severe hypertension with end-organ damage (stroke, acute heart failure, aortic dissection)
